The cost of getting a new gas connection can vary hugely depending on a wide array of factors. You may be in construction working on a multi-plot property development, or you could be expanding your business, working on home improvement, or moving into a new house, all of which requires getting connected to the mains gas supply. Whatever your reason, we are committed to getting you the best possible price and service.
The cost of a new gas connection depends on:
How remote your area is: Approximately 3.6 million homes are off the national grid. If your property is in a remote area, it can be challenging to connect gas to your property which can increase the cost of getting a new gas connection.
The number of appliances: The more energy needed, the higher the cost of the supply.
Has the property previously had gas? If it has, it is mostly a simple task to get you reconnected, so costs will be kept to a minimum.
The complexity of the works: If the installation work requires access to nearby properties, road closure etc. all of this will likely increase the cost of the work.
The distance of the gas meter from the mains: The further your property is from the mains, the more difficult it is to get connected, therefore the more costly the job.
It’s a good idea to check if the property already has gas pipes as, in most cases, this could help save time and costs. If you’re unable to locate them, this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not there. If the property previously had a gas supply or the neighbouring homes or buildings have a gas supply, the chances are that the gas piping infrastructure exists. It’s also possible that your gas supply could have been disconnected and capped off. In both scenarios, we can help to get you connected with ease.
To determine if the gas supply has been disconnected, we conduct a check to see if it is “dead” or “alive.” The cost of restoring the supply depends on whether it was capped after the meter or at the boundary.
Alternatively, if you’re looking to disconnect, divert, or alter your gas connection in any way such as moving the infrastructure that provides your gas supply, we can help to facilitate this quickly and hassle-free.
If your property has neighbours close by and they have a gas connection, then it’s likely there’s a supply right on your doorstep. Get in touch and we can check to see where the nearest main is. Alternatively, if they don’t have a gas connection or you are in a rural area, we can also advise on the nearest point of connection.
We have a team of specialists on hand to help with all areas of gas connections and assist you with finding out if you have a nearby supply and advise you on the next steps.
Every property in the UK which has a gas connection has an MPRN number which is controlled and issued by the gas transporter to your site. You can find out who your gas supplier is and details of your energy tariff on a recent gas bill. Your bill should have the suppliers name and contact details for you to be able to contact them.
Alternatively, if you do not have a recent gas bill to hand, you can also use the free Find My Supplier search tool to find your supplier after entering in few details about your property. The website enables you to find out who your gas supplier is as well as provide you with your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) and gas transporter.
Your MPRN is a unique reference number for your gas supply that can be found on your energy bills. If you don’t have a bill, your energy supplier or DNO can tell you what it is, or you can call the National Grid on 0870 608 1524.
MPRN stands for Meter Point Reference Number and relates to your gas supply. It is used to pinpoint individual gas supply points and tends to be a 10-digit number displayed in a grid that starts with the letter S.

I have used Crown Energy on a number of occasions now and it is always a pleasure! I usually dread dealing with anything to do with utility companies and this was my first time using them in a private capacity.
From the initial enquiry, through to project design and quote, the whole process was easy and seamless. The biggest benefit of using Crown Energy is that they make the process feel personal and it was very reassuring to have that one point of contact all the way through. I would highly recommend Crown Energy.
Had to get a quote to get a gas line connection to the house. Lewis was the point of contact and we could not get anyone more professional, kind and swift. He immediately had the answers to all our queries and broke everything down for us which made it very to understand and reassuring. Would highly recommend this company to anyone.
This is the most helpful and supportive company I have worked with to date. Answered all of my questions (and I've had many). This company really go the extra mile to look after their customers and become your 'friends on the end of the phone' when having any issues. Special thanks to Rheann and Lee for all their hard work. I've not had to lift a finger and they have made the whole process completely stress free. Would highly recommend this company to anyone.
