Frequently Asked Questions

What do you need from a customer in order to provide a quote?

Once you’re ready to proceed with a new gas, electricity or water service for your home, business or large project, either fill in a new Utility Application form or a Call Back Request. One of our team will contact you within 60 minutes if we receive your enquiry within our opening hours. Otherwise, we will contact you on the next working day.

Alternative, you can call us on 0330 123 2255 and start your enquiry. Our utility experts will take a few details from you and begin the design and costing stage for the work you require. We will need your name, address, email, phone number, property type, and company name and job title if relevant. We will also need the site details including a contact, address, email, phone number, and how many plots/units depending on the type of enquiry.

More importantly, we will need a site plan or a simple drawing to begin your utilities application. Most of the information we require can be gleaned from a simple drawing or site plan. This will negate the need for a site visit and enables us to accurately determine what work is required.

The drawing needs to be as basic and concise as possible and it doesn’t need to be to scale. We simply need to get an understanding of where the proposed work is going to happen. Therefore, don’t feel obliged to provide detailed technical drawings or to locate the original design plans from the building’s construction. That’s our job!

We then marry this information with our databases on the local infrastructure and start to design how the work is to be carried out.

Whether you’re looking for a connection, disconnection, diversion, alteration, or temporary supply, our utility advisors can help you from initial enquiry all the way through to work completion.

Do you need to conduct a site visit before providing a quote?

As a team, we have the experience and knowledge needed to be able to get a detailed understanding of your project without needing to occupy any of your time by being on-site.

Once your application has been submitted, our design engineers will determine if a site visit is required. There are some instances where we do insist on a site visit before offering you a quote. These are what we call ‘non-standard’ projects. These include:

  • Any work to be carried out on a water supply, as the regulations and conditions surrounding water are complex.
  • Any work on utilities that are located further than is standard from the main service point. We would be able to establish if this is the case after your initial phone call.
  • Any work taking place 3 metres or more above ground level. Essentially anything on the first floor and above.

If your planned work sounds particularly complex, ambitious, or large scale, it may be in both of our interests to conduct a site visit to help ensure we deliver the high standard of work to which we constantly aspire.

If a site visit is needed, your dedicated account manager will get in touch with you to let you know and make the necessary arrangements. You can expect the design and costing process to take anywhere between two to four weeks depending on the scope of the works involved.

What are the timescales for the completion of work?

Every utility job is unique. We work with a network of trusted nationwide service providers who are equipped to carry out the necessary works required. However, their can be factors out of our control that could delay the utility work required. This includes any required permits, the complexity of the work involved, the property’s distance from utility mains, and the location of the property (the more remote a property is, the more challenging a connection, disconnection, alteration, or diversion can be).

Another variable that may affect the timescale of the work is if there will be an impact on the flow of traffic. If so, we would need to factor in traffic management and when we are able to carry out the works.

Crown Energy does its best to offer reduced timescales; our guidance time for application to design and costing is two to four weeks, whilst the timeframe from acceptance to completion in six to 12 weeks.

Who can come to Crown Energy for a multi-utility application and costing?

Anybody who requires a new gas, electricity, or water connection, disconnection, alteration, or diversion service can contact Crown Energy. Whether you are a housing developer working on a multi-plot site, a business person renovating their offices, or a homeowner carrying out a complex extension, we can facilitate your utility connections, disconnections, alterations, and diversions with little to no hassle or disruption to your daily life. We also provide temporary builder’s supply as well as a range of utility metering solutions. It is important to note that we are not a utility supplier and do supply gas, electricity, or water.

The work is likely to interfere with local roads or a neighbour’s property, is that ok?

If your design and costing include infrastructure that involves access to a third-party property such as your neighbours, or public roads, an access permit will be required and/or utility traffic management will be needed. We will take care of obtaining and arranging these for you. If the nature of the work involves a road closure, this will also be reflected in the cost and timeframe for completing the job.

We have all the resources to get traffic management applications completed. This removes the hassle for the customer of contacting the local council and Highways Agency. This is just one more way in which Crown Energy works to save you time and keep the works required hassle-free. We have the network to overcome potential issues with little or no impact to your project.

How involved is Crown Energy in their multi-utility projects?

Our goal is to make utility services stress-free, and simple for our customers. We aim to free up your time and manage the work you require from application stage all the way through to completion. So, it is fair to say that Crown Energy is fully involved in all our multi-utility projects.

We are completely invested in the work and your project, taking care of literally every aspect relating to your gas, electricity, and water work, meaning you can use your time elsewhere.

You will have one point of contact – your dedicated account manager – who will be there every step of the way throughout the process to provide you with any updates, and answer any questions you have. Our highly-trained utility account managers work on every project as if it were their own so you can be confident in the knowledge that Crown Energy’s experience and industry prowess makes us an invaluable ally to complete your work in a timely manner.

What our customers say

I have used Crown Energy on a number of occasions now and it is always a pleasure! I usually dread dealing with anything to do with utility companies and this was my first time using them in a private capacity.

From the initial enquiry, through to project design and quote, the whole process was easy and seamless. The biggest benefit of using Crown Energy is that they make the process feel personal and it was very reassuring to have that one point of contact all the way through. I would highly recommend Crown Energy.

— Lawrence Lee

Had to get a quote to get a gas line connection to the house. Lewis was the point of contact and we could not get anyone more professional, kind and swift. He immediately had the answers to all our queries and broke everything down for us which made it very to understand and reassuring. Would highly recommend this company to anyone.

— Farhan Abubacar

This is the most helpful and supportive company I have worked with to date. Answered all of my questions (and I've had many). This company really go the extra mile to look after their customers and become your 'friends on the end of the phone' when having any issues. Special thanks to Rheann and Lee for all their hard work. I've not had to lift a finger and they have made the whole process completely stress free. Would highly recommend this company to anyone.
