Had to get a quote to get a gas line connection to the house. Lewis was the point of contact and we could not get anyone more professional, kind and swift. He immediately had the answers to all our queries and broke everything down for us which made it very to understand and reassuring. Would highly recommend this company to anyone.
When Should You Replace Your Gas Meter?
There are a few instances when you should have your gas meter replaced. The most obvious is if there is a fault and the meter is not recording accurately or if you are upgrading to a new meter.
Both gas and electricity meters have a certification period to ensure that you are being charged correctly for the amount of gas you have used. Your energy supplier is legally obliged to replace your meter if the certification period has expired.
How often should gas meters be replaced?
This all depends on the type of gas meter you have, but it can range from 10 to 25 years. Your energy supplier should send you a letter informing you that your meter will need to be upgraded to a more modern model.
Is my gas meter faulty?
If there is a potential fault with your gas meter, there are a number of things you can do. Firstly, you should call your gas provider who can help to identify the cause of the problem..If you identify the issue yourself, make a note of the readout on your gas meter, then switch off any l appliances that use gas, such as your cooker. After waiting 24 hours, check to see if the reading on the gas meter has changed. You can also compare your recent bills to see if there is a significant increase in price than previous bills.
Should I replace my meter even if it isn’t faulty?
Every gas meter has a period of certification, which is essentially a ‘best before’ date. After this period, it is recommended that your meter is replaced, even if it isn’t faulty. Different meter types have different certification periods, this can range from anywhere between 10 and 20 years. Your gas provider should notify you when your certification period has ended, and provide you with options to have the meter replaced.
Who pays for gas meter replacement?
The cost of replacing a meter may be free, but this depends on your energy supplier. There could be a small admin charge but there is no reason why you would be charged for a required piece of equipment.
Does a smart meter replace a gas meter?
Yes, a smart gas meter replaces a conventional gas meter, if the certification on your gas meter has lapsed you can have your meter replaced with a smart meter. Installation of a smart meter is optional and you can opt for a more conventional meter.

What Our Customers Say
I have used Crown energy over the past 8 years on multiple projects. I have found them to be very easy to work with, they are both professional & knowledgeable. The most recent application was for services for a new build block of 34 apartments. Michelle Kelly was the lady I have been dealing with on my most recent application, she was very helpful, enthusiastic, professional, she even took the time to go back to the contractors with my many questions & differing requirements.
Good old fashioned customer service. Lily, my first contact was polite, very communicative and knowledgeable about the service they offered she was a delight to talk to. Tegan, contract person was efficient and so far has kept me up to date with all I need to know. I would recommend the company to others on their customer service alone.
